Heating water for irrigation Print E-mail
Heating systems

Most of the intensive cultivation in greenhouses has cycles that take place during the cold season. A drop in the temperature of the crops below the optimum minimum causes different physiological disorders, ailments, vegetative halt, etc., on the other hand the appearance of freezing weather with extremely low temperatures of sufficient duration can produce the death of the plant or the total loss of the crop.

In Novedades Agrícolas S.A. we have long experience in the installation and maintenance of heating systems capable of providing the ideal temperature for your crop, with the best solutions adapted to your greenhouse, your geographical location, the different fuels available, etc., in an integral format and always with a view to a profitable investment.

Our technical department, after an appropriate study, can offer you the best solution for installing your heating system with sufficient power and the essential elements for a proper operation.

Heating Systems for Irrigation Water

The systems for heating irrigation water are employed to raise the temperature of the water supply employed in each watering cycle and improve the root system activity of the crop. The water stored in a regulating reservoir or coming from a spring can end up having very reduced temperatures in cold weather, provoking different ailments and wastage in the root system by reducing its physiological activity and impeding the performance of its functions of water absorption and extraction of fertilizing salts. This occurrence becomes more patent in soil-less crops where the substrate volumes are reduced and the thermal inertia is low.

The water heating systems are similar to a central heating installation where the system for production of the heat is connected by means of a water/water plate heat exchanger, with the demand point being the irrigation system.

An irrigation water heating installation consists of:

- Fuel storage and supply installation:

  • Boiler-burner assembly: heat generator of the system and of sufficient size to cover the peak demand of the project.
  • Hot water accumulator tank: in order to size the system appropriately.
  • Primary circuit, plate heat exchanger, secondary circuit, and temperature correction circuit of the irrigation water: the generator delivers the hot water to the accumulator through the plate heat exchanger, an expansion system being installed for this volume. After the accumulator, an electric pump injects hot water for correction of the temperature objective in each watering cycle.

- Electric installation: electric lines and conduits, protection devices, drive mechanisms, etc., suitable for the electricity supply and operation of the installation as a whole, as well as the safety devices necessary for running and operating the installation properly.
